Deer Lake is an historic town that rose up where the mighty Humber River meets Deer Lake. Almost a century since it began, the hydroelectric power plant continues to generate.
Historically Deer Lake was an important stop for the cross-island Newfoundland Railway line. Today the rails are gone but the T’rails remain. The rail bed route extends for 883 km (548 miles) linking urban, rural and wilderness areas and forms the Newfoundland section of the Trans Canada Trail.
